As if the standard 650-hp Shelby GT500 was not enough, Shelby American went ahead and created the Shelby 1000. As the name suggests, this one comes with a colossal 1100-hp engine. Actually, there are two versions. The road-going Shelby 1000 gets 950-hp, and the Shelby 1000 S/C track car gets the full 1100. And it all comes from the same 5.4 liter working class V8!

That said, Shelby has thrown almost all of it away, and installed new rods, crank and pistons. They’ve also flown the heads, upgraded the cooling and exhaust, and replaced the supercharger. Then to contain this fury, they’ve fitted the car with high performance brake system including 6 pistons in front and 4 pistons in the rear.

The suspension is upgraded as well, with new struts, sway bars and bushings. The new solid driveshaft is connected to a new 9-inch rear end. Exterior cues incorporate aerodynamics while maintaining a stealthy appearance. The hood, rear panel and splitter are functional pieces. It looks vicious as hell.

The car will makes its official debut at the New York Auto Show  in April. There will be a limited production run, with prices starting from at $149,995, NOT including the base GT500. So you are looking at a $200K Mustang here. Bit hard to swallow? Well…

You can always go for the standard GT500 which won’t cost more than $60K. But after this that 650-hp version does not seem very interesting anymore. The 800-hp SuperSnake then would be a better alternative.
