BRZ acceleration at Subaru BRZ: 0 to 60mph in 6.4 Seconds

If you watched Edmund’s track test of the 2013 Subaru BRZ we featured here a few days ago, you’d know they managed a time of 7.3 seconds in the acceleration test from 0 to 60mph. Now, Motortrend has had a go and they posted a much quicker time of 6.4 seconds. So that’s the quickest time announced for the BRZ, until a better driver posts a faster time.

6.4 is of course much better than the first figure we’ve been given for the BRZ, but it is still pretty slow for a car that was conceived from day one as a proper sports car. These days there are hot hatches, nay, family saloons that go from 0 to 60 faster than the BRZ.

The reason for the BRZ’s sluggish performance is of course the 2.0 liter boxer engine which only manages a dismal 200bhp. The car has a great chassis and a low center of gravity that makes it a charm to drive. But the engine almost ruins the whole thing. We know Subaru is working on a turbo version. They better hustle!
