At the Beijing Motor Show Jaguar confirmed the new F-Type Sports car will get a brand-new supercharged V6 petrol engine – which will also be used in the XJ and XF. In the Jaguar F-Type that engine makes 375bhp and 332lb-ft of torque, which sounds like enough for a lightweight two-seater sports car. To give us a taste of what this engine feels and sounds, former F1 driver Martin Brundle went to visit Jaguar Chief Engineer Mike Cross, who’s currently busy track testing the F-Type.
You just need to listen to that engine noise to realize the new F-Type is going to be a wonderful, wonderful sports car. It is, after all, a spiritual successor to the legendary E-Type.
The F-Type will join Jaguar’s existing range of cars – the XF saloon and Sportbrake, XJ saloon and XK coupe/convertible. Full F-TYPE technical and range details will be announced later in 2012. It will go on sale in mid 2013.
