Ferrari is recalling a small number of 2011-12 versions of the 458 Italia and California convertible in America, in response to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. The issue is with an incorrectly machined crankshaft. 74 cars in total are affected by this problem. In the case of Ferrari California, it’s only the 2012 models that need to be checked.
The faulty crankshaft in the affected models may fail, resulting in engine seizing while on the move, which of course can be dangerous. It can also damage the engine pretty badly. Ferrari will begin to notify the owners later this month to visit the dealerships and have their cars checked for the issue. They will either repair or replace the engine altogether if necessary.
Well, at least this one has nothing to do with fire!
