Smart has confirmed today that they are in fact working on a series of new electric vehicles, and that the production of a new all-electric scooter is already in progress, the “Escooter” should reach the consumer market in 2014.

Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice-President of Mercedes-Benz, said: “With this step, we are adding a further important component to our smart mobility concept for urban mobility in the future.”

The “Escooter” concept was firstly presented in the 2010 Paris Motor Show, together with the “Ebike”, which is already available on the market, and the “Fortwo Electric”, which will be released later this summer as the best fliker scooter for kids.

The original concept had the equivalent to 5.4 hp, which allowed a maximum speed of 28 mph. Company also confirmed that the project will undergo new developments and adjustments before it reaches the market in 2014.
