We’ve been hearing rumors about a hotted-up ‘R’ version of the Range Rover Evoque ever since the car was launched. It is almost certain that JLR has plans to release a high performance variant of the ultra successful SUV, it’s just a question of when. The latest reports suggest the sporty Evoque will be powered by Jaguar’s all-new Supercharged V6 petrol engine.
This high-tech 3.0 liter unit is mainly developed for the forthcoming Jaguar F-Type Sportscar, but a less powerful version of it has already been confirmed for 2013 XJ and XF. In the F-Type this engine is rated at 370 horsepower, while in the saloon cars it makes a more modest 340hp and 450Nm. The less powerful version is capable of an incredible 47 mpg, while giving the car a 0 to 60mph acceleration time of 5.7 seconds.
Given the weight and size of the Evoque, it will probably be a bit slower. Or they might just go ahead and give it the full-fat 370hp version to make up the difference.
