12 months after launching the MP4-12C, McLaren Automotive will unveil the drop-top version of it on July 3rd, 2012. To officially announce the occasion, they had Formula 1 wordl champion Jensen Button to talk a few words about the experience of driving really fast with no roof. At first you think he’s talking about the MP4-27 Formula 1 car, but it’s the 12C Spider. That – 12C Spider – seems to be the official name of the car. It’s not very good, but it’s far better than MP4-12C!

The 12C Spider is based on the same super stiff carbon fibre MonoCell chassis as its hardtop sibling and so will be just as dynamic to drive. It has the same V8 engine which recently received a boost to 625 PS, and is more usable than any other super car that offers this kind of speed and excitement. McLaren thinks removing the roof will increase the car’s sensation of speed. Something the hardtop lacks.
