RenaultSport’s Megane joins Clio and Twingo in getting a Red Bull Racing RB7 special edition. For those who may not know, Red Bull F1 team has been using Renault engines since 2007, and that’s where the connection comes from. The highlights of the Red Bull Megane RS include a chequered-flag pattern roof decal, a limited slip differential and the R.S. Monitor system.
There is not change in performance, as the RB7 gets the same engine as the Megane RS 256, a 2.0 liter unit with 250 hp and 340 Nm. But the rest of the car is sort of souped up to make the whole thing feel better. It gets a Cup chassis, a limited slip differential and red brake callipers, as well as an R.S. Monitor which takes its inspiration from the on-board telemetry systems seen in motor racing.
What really sets this car apart if its visual features, which include Sirius Yellow for the F1-style front blade, door mirror housings and diffuser. As mentioned it also gets a chequered-flag pattern roof, and lots of Red Bull badges and graphics.
Despite its shouty in-your-face exterior, this Megane RS is actually quite a sensible car. It has stop/start system and according to Renault it can average 7.5 liter/100 km while emitting no more than 174g/km CO2.
