This week Jay Leno has something rather special at his garage. It’s a hybrid truck he and Bob Lutz of General Motors have collaborated on, and it’s a 100 mpg full-size pickup. They basically got a large American truck – a symbol of burning gas and polluting the air – and made it green.
The VTRUX powertrain consists of a 4.3-liter GM-sourced V6 combined with a couple of electric motors, good for a total output of 402 horsepower and as mentioned 100 mpg. It also has a range of 300 miles, and generates enough electricity you can run your power tool off it. We’re a bit skeptical about that 100 mpg bit, but all in all, it is a great effort. You will learn more about it in the video below:
VIA Motors Extended Range Electric Truck will be launched in 2013 in truck, SUV and van forms, with a projected price of around $80k.
