Commemorating the late, great Carroll Shelby, “Friends of Carroll Shelby” have built a one-off version of the 2013 Shelby GT500 to pay homage to the big man with no less than 850 horsepower. Now that’s a fitting tribute to a man whose name was synonymous with horsepower and speed. The car is finished in Cobra historical Guardsman Blue/Wimbledon White stripe paint.
The Cobra uses the 662-hp supercharged V8 engine of the 2013 Shelby GT500 as the base, but it gets a Ford Racing 4.0-litre Whipple supercharger which takes the power output up to 850. It is also fitted with a Shelby American wide-body kit, consisting of a specially designed bonnet and massively flared arches which are there to accommodate the new wheels.
The Cobra uses 20×13-inch rear and 20×10-inch front wheels which at the back are fitted with 345 section tires. The car also benefits from Shelby Wilwood brakes.
The fastest and most powerful production Mustang ever is the car by which Carroll Shelby will be rememberd forever. Before the 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra hits the road, it will be shown at the Ford display in the expo area at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion this weekend.
Ford is also announcing a renamed road at its Product Development Center in Dearborn, Mich., as a tribute to Shelby as well. Cobra has been the consistent performance label as Shelby worked with Ford for most of the last 60 years, and Shelby was instrumental in the creation of Ford performance vehicles including Cobras, the GT40 and Mustangs since the mid-1960s.
