As we reported before Ford has launched a new advertising campaign for the new Focus ST in America, in which they highlight the car’s plus points by pitting it against its main rivals in the market. The new film, or session as Ford calls it, shows the car taking some of the toughest competition and, well, beating them. You can’t lose in your own test anyway.
They might have got a bit carried away though.
Ford says the ST is better than a Mazdaspeed 3 because it has less torque steer, and better than the Subaru Impreze WRX because it has more torque. It’s hardly a thorough test – and they don’t compare the car’s straight line performance to the Mazda, or cornering capability to the WRX – but fair enough. The ST is a fine hot hatch. Then they show a BMW M3 and say the ST is better than an M3 because it’s cheaper. Well, a lot of things are cheaper than an M3! That doesn’t mean they are better.
The new Focus ST is a great hot hatchback. But at the end of the day, it’s just a hatchback, and a fairly ugly one.
