In its quest to make provide the GT86 sports car with a proper motorsport career, Toyota announced launch of a new customer race car version of it. Customer race car means everybody can buy this car and race it in an eligible series, such as the Nurburgring VLN series for which this GT86 was built. You can even use it for 24 hours endurance racing.
The best thing about the TMG GT86 CS-V3, however, is its price tag. Race cars are usually very expensive – case in point is the GT4 racing version of Mazda MX-5 that costs a whopping £125,000 with no options on it. This Toyota meanwhile costs only €38,500!
Mind you, while that Mazda has a 320-hp engine, the GT86 race car’s powertrain is the same 2.0 liter 200hp boxer unit you get in the standard road-going car. But still, that sounds like awesome value for money, considering the car comes with racing exhausts and suspension, sport brakes and slick tires as well as a racing cabin complete with roll cage, fire extinguisher and harness.
What cars like this do is make motorsport more affordable and accessible. You have to love them for that.
