McLaren kinda shocked us at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours by unveiling the X-1, a one-off custom version of the 12C built for a special customer from the Middle East. The X-1 looks like something out of an old science fiction movie, and apart from the roof, it shares almost nothing with the base car. Internet rumors suggest the X-1 – designed and built buy McLaren Special Operations unit – has cost its owner $7,000,000.
In this video you get a close look at this weird but interesting McLaren:
Underneath the body, the engine, the chassis and the interior are all stock 12C. The X-1 has the same 625 horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine, but because of the new body which appears to have the aerodynamic efficiency of a sea lion, it’ll probably be a tad slower. Not that it matters, because cars like this will rarely be driven anywhere. Click here for more details about McLaren X-1.
