Australian Police, Sydney’s Harbourside Police to be more precise, has been given a Panamera patrol car by Porsche Cars Australia as part of its corporate social responsibility program. It’s the base model with the 300-hp V6 engine, but it’s a Porsche nevertheless. That said, it’s not likely to be used for high speed chases. It works better as a eye candy to impress tourists.

Dressed in full Police livery complete with lights bar and everything, this Panamera is loaned to the rozzers for six month, but if the force is happy with it – why wouldn’t they be – it can be extended for another six months.

Well, good for the Aussies. In Britain the Police still gets diesel Vauxhalls.

“Porsche has a strong community spirit and we are proud to work with the NSW Police on this initiative,” Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director, Michael Winkler, said. “This is the first time we’ve made available a Porsche to any police force in Australia and the curiosity factor alone of a Panamera in police decals should help the NSW Police achieve awareness and engage people in its community programs.”
