As the English equivalent of the G-Wagen, Land Rover Defender has maintained its classic looks for years and years. Sadly the next generation is getting all modern and funky, and is going to lose the rugged look of the current car – which has just received a thorough upgrade for its 2013 modelyear with new options and colors.

The new Defender now comes with a choice of four new contrast roof colours, a new premium seat design and upgraded in-car entertainment. There is also two new exterior body colours: Barolo Black and Havana. For the roof meanwhile you get Santorini Black, Indus Silver, Orkney Grey or Firenze Red.

Inside the cabin the new seats will bring you a bit more comfort, but you have to accept this is still very much a military car. But you will be enjoying the Alpine-branded Hi Line 150W low profile subwoofer system with 10cm coaxial speakers.

One of the biggest improvements in the new model concerns the 2.2 liter diesel engine, which is now EU5 compatible. Developing 122PS and peak torque of 360Nm, this engine works in tandem with a six-speed gearbox to take you from 0 to 60 mph in about 15 seconds before hitting its top speed of 90 mph.

Available in three different wheelbases and in both standard and heavy-duty guise, the 2013 Model Year Defender goes on sale from September 2012 with prices starting from £22,350.
