Following yesterday’s teaser video and leaked images, Peugeot now releases official pictures and details of the Onyx concept. Peugeot Onyx is set for debut at the car maker’s home motor show in Paris, and it’s a super car concept developed by design enthusiasts, apparently. That’s probably why it looks so cool.
Looks are only half of what’s great about this car though. It has much more substance than that. It is made using materials processed as little as possible, and explores raw materials. A look at the interior confirms that. On the outside, the wings and doors are pure copper sheet crafted by hand. Aerodynamically, the Onyx has a Cd of 0.30.
What’s more, it has a big V8 engine mounted in the middle. Earlier reports suggested it has a 1.6 liter hybrid powetrain.
Beneath tha glorious body is where you see the footsteps of Peugeot Sport almost every where. They in charge of setting up the chassis and suspension, and also provided the 3.7-litre V8 hybrid HDi FAP engine. It develops 600bhp which is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. Given the compact size of the car, and the fact that it weighs only 1,100 kg, it will certainly go like a race car.
Peugeot Sport also fitted the Onyx with powerful brakes, 20-inch wheels and Michelin sizes 275/30 at the front and 345/30 at the rear.
The interior of this car is also a very amazing place. The whole passenger compartment is formed as a one-piece pod, with no stitching or joins. The areas of contact with body have been inserted with foam to provide a comfort ride.
The dashboard is made of a new type of wood called the ‘Newspaper Wood’ which as the name suggests is made from used newspapers! You get a small steering wheel and the instrument panel in a head up position, and that’s about it.
As a concept the Onyx is simply astonishing. Sadly, all these amazing stuff means it will never have a chance of production. The car will be on display at Paris Motor Show along with the Onyx bike and Onyx scooter.
