Porsche Macan Nothing Like Audi Q5, Says R&D Boss

Porsche Macan Teaser at Porsche Macan Nothing Like Audi Q5, Says R&D Boss

The new Porsche Macan crossover is going to be based on the Audi Q5, and that has got the fans worried it might turn out to be as dull and boring as the Audi. But Porsche’s R&D boss Wolfgang Hatz promises it is going to be a full-on Porsche and “not a Q5 with a Porsche hat on”.

So Herr. Hatz is sort of admitting that the car their sister company makes is indeed boring. That is why they’ve modified almost everything – engines, transmissions, suspension – to make sure the Macan feels totally different than the Q5.

That is also good news for Audi, because it means the Macan won’t mess with the Q5’s market. It is going to be a better car, and therefore more expensive, and aimed at entirely different customers.

Hatz has also confirmed that Macan will become available with four-cylinder engines a few years down the line.
