Hyundai is still in SEMA mode, apparently, judging by this concept version of the Veloster they unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Basically, the C3 it’s a convertible version of the Hyundai Veloster, with a soft top that slides backwards and forwards.
Hyundai says that in the C3 they have combined the style of a coupe and the freedom of an open-top car. But it’s not a real coupe, and that roof arrangement hardly makes it an open-top car.It is kinda like the Citroen DS3 Cabrio.
It does have a clever design though. The C3’s dual-function power-retractable roof combined with the tailgate gives it greater functionality. With the roof open it is a car with the roof open, but when it’s closed, open the tailgate, fold the rear seats, and you have a large space where you can fit your bike or you kayak or whatever. Hyundai says it’s recreation mode, but it looks more like a pickup mode to us.
Reflecting on the C3’s dual personality, The car has green rear wheels and black front wheels, while the body is finished in a special white. Other details over the standard Veloster include blacked-out grille and accenting as well as a diffuser and eight individual headlight LED on the outside, and two-tone leather upholstery on the inside. The floor is covered with a mosaic made out of more than 20 old skate boards.
The engine powering the Veloster C3 is a 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder developing 201 hp.
