The new Opel Astra OPC is quite a strange car. Its recipe and ingredients suggest it should be a cracking car; it’s good-looking, very powerful, and has a funky interior. But somehow when all these things come together the end result is not as satisfying as you’d hope.
This 0-250 km/h test kind of shows what is wrong with the Opel. It does shift, but it doesn’t seem to be very happy about it. Compare it to the way BMW M135i gathers speed, and you realize the difference between a good hot hatch and a truly great one.
Opel Astra OPC is powered by a Turbocharged 2.0 liter engine developing 206 kW / 280 hp. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, and as you can see here it hits – well, struggles to hit – 250 km/h. The OPC is a front-wheel drive car, which means it is not that good around corners either.
