To be perfectly honest with you we didn’t know anything about steam cars until we watched this video. In it Jay Leno details his 1925 Doble Series E Steam Car, and spends a great deal of time explaining how it works; where the water goes in, how they made the boiler thingy out of spaceship material, how you start the car, etc.
This is really fascinating, at least for car enthusiasts. This steam car is more complex technologically than Jay’s McLaren F1. It takes you like half an hour to get it going, but it’s so cool. This is the best physics lesson I’ve ever had.
Actually the Doble can go from cold to driving in about 45 seconds – very different from the Stanley which does take around 20-30 minutes to start from cold.
