Hyundai Motor America is recalling a vast number of Veloster models built in 2012 over two major problems with the sunroof and the brakes. 13,500 Velosters may have damaged sunroofs that shatter, while 4,490 units have faulty parking brakes that may bind.
The sunroof issue is the result of an installation error t the factory. If the weakened sunroof shatter while driving, not only it causes a major distraction, it can also hurt the car’s occupants. Hyundai will inspect and replace the whole thing if necessary, free of charge.
The parking brake problem affects the Veloster models equipped manual transmission. The issue with this is that road grime may find its way to the system, causing the brakes to bind and not engage properly. Worst case scenario, it can lead to the car rolling away while being in park.
Recalls will start in January 2013.
