McLaren used the unveiling ceremony of the new MP4-28 Formula1 car to tease the P1. The new British hyper car made a brief cameo appearance at the McLaren Technology Centre, driven by 2009 Formula 1 World Champion and this year’s lead driver Jenson Button.
They put the second driver, the new boy Sergio Perez, in a McLaren 12C Spider. The duo joined a lineup of classic and modern McLaren models including 1970s M8D CanAm sportscar, Emerson Fittipaldi’s iconic 1974 M23, Ayrton Senna’s dominant 1988 MP4/4, our 1995 Le Mans-winning F1 GTR, Mika Hakkinen’s MP4-13 car from 1998, and the most recent championship winning car to wear the McLaren badge, the MP4-23 from 2008.
This rather elaborate display of McLaren automotive and motorsport heritage is the beginning of a year of 50th anniversary celebrations.
The next step for McLaren P1 is the debut of a close to production prototype at the Geneva Motor Show.
