German designer Peter Schreyer continues to climb the corporate ladder at a very fast pace. He was recently named the President of Kia Motors, and now Hyundai announced they’ve put him in charge of their design team as well.
It is only a matter of time before he runs the entire Hyundai’Kia corporation. Schreyer is appointed as President to oversee Hyundai and Kia’s design centers in order to streamline its resources and create synergy between the two brands. Hyundai obviously feels they’ve been missing out on this guy. He is, after all, the man who turned Kia into the big, successful car maker it is today, simply by revolutionizing their design language and producing good-looking mainstream cars.
So let’s see how Schreyer will change Hyunadi’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language with his favourite philosophy which is ‘The simplicity of the straight line’.
“Strengthening our fundamentals, especially in the area of design, is imperative to secure long-term competitiveness,” said Woong-Chul Yang, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Centre in Korea. “Design is not just the most visible aspect of the car, but it’s an area customers have a strong emotional connection to. It is at the centre of our efforts to enhance our brand value.”
“Mr. Schreyer brings a wealth of experience in design from the global auto industry and has a deep understanding of the Hyundai Motor Group. These valuable qualities will help build the foundation needed to make Hyundai and Kia leading global top automakers,” added Mr. Yang.
