Toyota Racing Development released a lousy teaser picture for their upcoming project based on the GT86. Dubbed the 86 TRD Griffon Concept, it is a track version of the famous sports car, and it recently had its first shakedown at the Tsukuba circuit where it recorded a lap time of 1:01:872.

That’s a remarkable time, specially when you realize it is a second faster than the Ferrari 458. What TRD has done to the GT86 to get this kind of performance out of it is yet to be revealed, but it is quite heartwarming, because sooner or later some of that technology will make it into the road going versions of the car. So if you want to buy a GT86, you better hold on a bit longer; faster models are in the works.

The TRD Griffon will be unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon.
