Ford took to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to reveal the European version of its EcoSport, a global crossover model. The car is designed as an Eco model, but the Euro-spec version comes loaded with stuff like Ford SYNC, complete with AppLink and voice-activation.
Ford EcoSport launches in the green continent with the firm’s renowned 125 PS 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine as the primary option, plus a 110 PS 1.5-liter petrol and a 90 PS 1.5-liter diesel engine. It is not a full-on SUV, but for a compact crossover the EcoSport should be pretty versatile; especially as it comes with Electronic Stability Program and Hill Launch Assist.
The EcoSport also features a funky design with short bonnet and raked front pillars, plus Ford’s distinctive grille and headlights. Granted, it may look a bit ‘Eco,’ but then it will be priced like one too.
The Ford SYNC feature in the EcoSport comes with Emergency Assistance, which not only connects the occupants to the emergency services in the correct language of the region, it also uses the vehicle’s on-board GPS unit, and mobile network to pinpoint accident location. Not that long ago such features used to be luxury car territory.
