Ever since Swiss car maker Rinspeed sold its Porsche tuning business to Mansory, it seems they only exist to each year come up with a crazy concept car for their home motor show in Geneva. Some years what they come up with is just idiotic, but some years there seem to be a method to their madness. This is the Rinspeed microMAX.

By the look of it the microMAX appears to be yet another hideous electric car fitted with some tablets, and in essence it is, actually. But the technologies they’ve put in this thing are quite clever and not totally pointless.

Rinspeed says this is a ‘networked swarm car’ but don’t let that put you off. The idea is, as the name suggests, to offer the largest interior with maximum usability in the smallest, most efficient package possible. So while the microMAX is only 3.7 meters long and 2.2 meters tall, it has a lounge-like interior with features like a refrigerator and a coffee maker. Dunno about you, but we prefer a coffee maker in our cars to any other luxury!

Developed jointly by Harman and TRW, the microMAX also features some properly awesome connectivity systems including a graphical VOD instrument panel, tablets for the passengers, and a 19-inch HD touchscreen with multi-dimensional interface, which not only acts as navigation and controls the car’s features, it also appears to be a social networking tool. The video below will explain that better:
