Czech car maker and member of VW Group Skoda Auto is celebrating production of its 15th million vehicle. This remarkable milestone is marked with a new third-generation Skoda Octavia; a model that the biggest contributor to that number.

Skoda has been making cars since 1905, but it is in the past six years that they saw a dramatic growth. One third of the total 15 million vehicles rolled off the assembly lines in that period, with 1 million alone produced in 2012. By 2018 Skoda reckons they can produce and sell 1.5 million vehicles per year.

Octavia, the brand’s best-seller, accounts for about 44 percent of Skoda’s worldwide sales. Since its introduction in 1996, about 3.75 million Octavias have been delivered to customers.

Skoda recently boosted the capacity of the assembly line at the Mlada plant from 800 to 1,200 vehicles per day by installing a new body shop and a fully-automated paint shop for interior car body parts. They seem to be right on track to achieve their 2018 goals. The growing demand in the global markets such as China, Russia and India guarantees that.
