The TRD-tuned Toyota GT86 is being readied for its UK launch this Spring. So if you were planning on getting a GT86, you better hold on a bit longer. Mind you, they are only bringing 250 GT86 TRD to the UK, so go put your money down now if you want one.
This version of the GT86 sports car comes with a factory kit made by TRD (Toyota Racing Development). It gets front and side skirts, rear spoiler, and a sport exhaust system with four tailpipes. There are other minor details, such as TRD-branded radiator cap, fuel filler cover, and gear shift.
The main highlight of the exterior is the set of 18-inch TF6 alloy wheels that replace the standard 17-inch Prius wheels on the normal models. They look much better than the stock rims but there is a slight possibility that they might change the car’s brilliant handling characteristics by being too grippy. As you know, the GT86 is so fun to drive because it has small wheels and skinny tires that make it possible to slide the car even at low speed.
Performance is unchanged over the standard models, at 7.7 seconds for 0-62mph and 140mph for the manual and 8.4 seconds and 130mph for the automatic. The prices, however, have gone up significantly. Toyota is asking £31,495 for GT 86 TRD manual, £32,995 for the automatic.
TRD versions are pretty much loaded though, with HID headlamps, front fog lamps, limited slip differential, Smart Entry and Start, dual-zone climate control, analogue dials and meters, drilled aluminium pedals, sports seats, scuff plates, cruise control and the Toyota Touch multimedia system.
