According to a recent report by automotive data and trends forecasting Polk, Ford Focus is currently the world’s best-selling vehicle nameplate. They also named Ford Fiesta the world’s best-selling subcompact car, making the American car maker feel very very happy.
Toyota of course argues that their Corolla is the world’s best-selling vehicle, but then Polk shows us some figures. Their global market registration data revealed sales of the Ford Focus totalled 1,020,410 cars worldwide in 2012. That number for Ford Fiesta is 723,130 registrations. The Fiesta also holds the title of best-selling small car in Europe in 2012 according to automotive data intelligence provider, JATO Dynamics.
Fiesta and Focus are Ford’s best-sellers in the UK market as well, recording 109,265 and 83,115 sales in 2012 respectively. In the global market, the Focus relies on its different variants like sedan and estate, and also market-specific models, to get the sales number up.
“Focus and Fiesta represent the culmination of our One Ford global product strategy,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln. “Our global products are resonating with consumers – especially in the best-selling, most competitive segments – with their unique combination of fuel efficiency, high quality, rich content and fun-to-drive personalities. Through One Ford, we’re able to bring economies of scale and fantastic value to customers all around the world.”
