Official prices of the new Ford Transit Connect in the British market have been revealed, and the totally revamped commercial vehicle costs between £13,921 to £19,130. Of course the Connect does not deliver the full Transit experience – for that you have to go for the Custom and Courier models – but it is a lot of van for its price.
Let’s get right to the business and review the numbers. The Connect comes in Van, Double-Cab-in-Van and Kombi bodystyles with short-wheelbase (L1) and long-wheelbase (L2) versions. It features a load area with total volumes of 2.9m3 and 3.6m3 with a full bulkhead, or 3.7m3 and 4.4m3 including the front loadspace area (L1/L2, measured to SAE). Payload is 1000 kg.
Those numbers are meaningless unless you are a van driver, but everybody can understand this bit: the Connect Kombi and Double-Cab-in-Van models offer seating for five, or seven in the L2 Kombi model, and deliver flexible rear seat configurations. So if you have an unusually large family, you may want to consider this as a family car.
What really sets the Transit apart is the choice of powertrains, including the 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with a choice of 75, 95 and 115PS power outputs, and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with 100PS power output. The ECOnetic models are capable of 70.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 105g/km, while the 1.0 liter Ecoboost delivers 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 129g/km.
