The new generation Porsche 911 GT3 (the 991 series) made its public debut during this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Porsche was also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 911 at the event with sculptures and stuff, and that kind of overshadowed the GT3. Now worries though, you can have a good look at this astonishing car as it tackles the Goodwood hill right here.
Possibly the most handsome iteration of the Porsche 911 ever, the new GT3 is also one of the most technologically-advanced. We think we’re in saying that it is also one of the best-sounding. Check it out:
It is not all sweetness and light, though, the new GT3. A lot of people are still complaining about the lack of a manual gearbox option, and rightly so. What’s more, the car has a rear steering system. Brilliant as it is in making the car go around the corner faster and in a very cool fashion, you get the feeling that it is the machine that’s making you look good, not your talent. It can feel a bit artificial.
Still, there is no denying that the new Porsche 911 GT3 is mighty quick. With a 475 hp (350 kW) 3.8 liter flat-six engine revving restlessly right at the bottom-end of the car, the GT3 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and onto a top speed of 315 km/h. That seven-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission will certainly drive some of the traditional GT3 customers away. But at the same time it will attract a lot of new ones.
