Not to be outdone by Ford and their Taurus-based all-wheel-drive Cruiser, Dodge revealed an AWD version of their Charger Pursuit Police car. They are now having the upper hand, as the Charger managed to set the fastest lap time during Michigan State Police’s 2014 Vehicle Evaluation Test.

The 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD recorded a lap time of 1:33.85, which is only slightly slower than that of the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V-8 rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model (1:33.70). Featuring the most advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system in the segment, delivering maximum all-weather traction and fuel-efficiency, the Charger AWD offers sure footed performance and capability to give chase even if the villain decides to go off road.

Powered by a 370 horsepower HEMI V8 engine, the 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD has a segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect system. It automatically disconnects the front axle to maximize fuel economy. So the car’s light on fuel as well.

The car also has the best stopping power in the segment, with 60-0 mph in less than 127 feet, thanks to its large brakes featuring 14.5-inch front rotors. To enhance the vehicle’s high-speed and aggressive braking performance, the rear suspension is updated as well with new camber link.

Performance-wise, the Charger AWD V8 does 0-to-60 mph in less than 6 seconds and up to 25 highway mpg with innovative four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology. It can be had with an aluminum 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine as well, delivering 292 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque and up to 27 mpg.
