Porsche released the official details and images of the cabriolet version of the new 911 (991) Turbo and Turbo S models. As you’d expect, it is exactly like a 991 Turbo but with a fabric roof. And we’re still struggling to see the point of it.
If you want a drop-top Porsche 911, the standard Carrera models are perfectly fine. Sure, the Turbo is a lot faster, but with the top down you don’t go fast anyway – well, unless you want bees in your nose and all your hair inside out – so why spend all that extra dough on the Turbo Cab?
At any rate, the Porsche 991 Turbo Cabriolet, which like the hardtop comes in two Turbo and Turbo S variants, features a fabric roof that goes up and down in 13 seconds, and can be operated on the move up to 30 mph.
Sitting 1.1 inch wider than the Carrera 4 models, the Turbo can be had with either 520 hp in 911 Turbo or 560 hp in the S model. They are both powered by a magnificent 3.8 liter biturbo flat-six unit. Standard transmission is a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch, hooked up to a PTM all-wheel-drive. Rear-axle steering system is also fitted as standard. EPA fuel consumption ratings are 17.0 mpg city and 24.0 mpg highway.
Everything else about the Porsche 991 Turbo Cabriolet is the same as the hardtop models, which is to say brilliant. You get a luxurious cabin fitted with the latest technology features, and a build quality that is second to none. And the price of all this magnificence? A whopping $193,900 excluding a $950 destination charge. You see? A C4S Cabrio makes a lot more sense.
