McLaren revealed further details on the new 12C GT Sprint, the latest creation of McLaren GT, the motorsport arm of the British super car maker. Basically a track toy for rich people with a passion for motorsport, the McLaren 12C GT Sprint is priced at £195,000.
The car slots between the road-going 12C and the GT3 race car, inheriting systems such as the Brake Steer and the active McLaren Airbrake, as well as a recalibrated Proactive Chassis Control (PCC). Power comes from the same 625 horsepower M838T 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 powerplant as in the standard 12C.
While the 12C Sprint sheds all the unnecessary luxury fittings of the road-going car, except air conditioning system, it gets some of the GT3’s bits and bobs, including FIA-approved safety roll cage, central cooling radiator and digital dash display. You also get a fully adjustable HANS-approved, lightweight composite racing seat fitted with full six-point harness provides the optimum driving position, and an integrated fire extinguisher system.
Furthermore, the car gets a more aggressive front bumper, GT3-inspired bonnet with radiator exit ducts and front wing louvres, 40mm lower ride height, GT brakes, and 19-inch wheels, shod with Pirelli competition tyres.
The upshot of all this is that the McLaren 12C GT Sprint is going to be extremely fast around any race track. But if you want to really enjoy your time going round, get a Porsche 911 RSR.
