Acura revealed a prototype version of the all-new TLX high-performance sedan at the Detroit Motor Show, previewing an upcoming production car that blends luxury refinement with sporty characteristics. The TLX get chiseled, sporty looks, and a ‘next-generation’ Acura powertrain.
With the new TLX Acura is finally making serious changes in the design of their sedan cars. It’s been long overdue, and they seem to be doing a good job of it, as the TLX prototype is very easy on the eyes. The car is low and wide, and has features like sculpted panels, bright jewel-like headlights, just the right amount of chrome accenting, and 20-inch wheels. Size-wise, the TLX slots between the smaller ILX and larger RLX sedans.
The 2015 Acura TLX Prototype is also a showcase of the firm’s latest technology features. It comes with the next generation Acura Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS) dynamic performance and handling technologies.
You have the choice of – in the production version, that is – two engines and two transmission, plus two- or four-wheel-drive. The first is the all-new 2.4-liter 16-valve inline 4-cylinder mated to an equally new 8-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) with torque converter, and the second, the 3.5-liter SOHC V-6 mated to a 9-speed automatic.
Safeguarding Acura’s reputation as one of the safest car makers in America, the TLX will come chockfull of advanced driver-assistive technologies including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow and Blind Spot Indicator (BSI).
