OK, this needs clarifying. Scottish singer and songwriter – and massive petrolhead – Amy Macdonald joins Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May during Top Gear Live’s Highlands show last weekend. Sadly, she’s not going to be on the TV show, which returns for a new series on February 2nd.

Amy is a huge car nut and Top Gear fan, and the show was being held in her hometown of Glasgow. So it was almost a given to see her at the show, indulging her love of motoring next to the TG trio. Amy was excited about the opportunity, describing being a presenter on Top Gear as a dream job, and tweeted: “Looking forward to doing some backstage filming for Top Gear Live at the Hydro. New career move?” (via DailyRecord.co.uk)

Amy had hinted before at her involvement in future Top Gear programs in an interview with the Ferrari Magazine. It was in the same interview that she revealed her hit song Slow It Down was actually written about her Ferrari 458 Italia. It is a love song alright, but a love song she wrote for the car!

The Scottish Top Gear Live event at SSE Hydro was a huge success with more than 40,000 fans attending the 90-minute extravaganza featuring all the best bits from previous Top Gear Live triumphs, including the V8-powered stage, base-jumpers hurdling over moving cars, blazing displays by fiery Porsches and the astonishing Cauldron of Death, as well as motorised football matches, Reliant Robins and car curling.
