Hennessey Chevrolet SS Hits 163 mph at Texas Toll Road

Texas Toll Road has become Hennessey Performance’s stumping ground, where every once in a while they teach other tuners a thing or two about speed and performance. The latest Hennessey car to hit the road and achieve incredible speed is the Chevrolet SS sports sedan fitted with their HPE600 supercharger package.

Hennessey Chevrolet SS clocks 163 mph, which is not exactly mind-blowing. But then the SS’ top speed is limited by its automatic gearbox. More powerful packages are in the works which will unlock a new level of performance for the SS allowing it to be even faster.

Chevrolet SS is one of the most interesting four-door cars GM has made in years, boasting a 6.2 liter V8 engine out of the new Corvette, tuned at 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. And since they are pulling the plug on Holden, it’ll probably be their last properly-hot sports sedan too.

What Hennessey Performance is proposing for the Chevy SS at this stage includes high flow air induction systems, engine management tuning upgrades, high-flow intercooler systems, exhaust system upgrades, turbo system upgrades, Brembo brake upgrades, suspension upgrades and wheel and tire upgrades. These upgrades will gradually become available for the car throughout 2014.
