The Americans got a firs-hand look at the new Porsche Macan first at the Los Angeles Auto Show and then, more recently, at the Detroit Motor Show. In Britain, though, they decided the best place to show the car to the public is Harrods shop window on the Brompton Road in Knightsbridge.
And they are absolutely right about this, because the Macan is going to be bought mostly by the wives of wealthy Londoners, and most of them shop at Harrods. It’s a brilliant car, the Macan, but the problem is that if you want a Porsche SUV you buy the full-fat Cayenne. This is a small, discount version for those who cannot afford the big one.
So if your wife decided she wants one of those cute new Porches she saw yesterday at Harrods, they are currently taking orders for April 2014 delivery, with prices starting from £43,300 to £59,300.
Porsche Macan comes with a choice of three high performance engines, with active all-wheel drive and Porsche Traction Management standard on all models. There is the 260-hp Macan S Diesel, the 340-hp Macan S, and the top of the range 400-hp Macan Turbo. Standard equipment on all models includes Porsche Traction Management (PTM), seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) double-clutch transmission, alloy wheels, digital radio, front and rear ParkAssist, floor mats, multi-function steering wheel with gearshift paddles, electronic tailgate release, USB port connection and a three-year warranty.
