As promised, Porsche revealed the final version of their 2014 Le Mans Prototype racer at the Geneva Motor Show. Showcased in full racing garb, the Porsche 919 Hybrid is a car of utmost importance, as it marks the return of the brand to the celebrated LMP1 class.
AS the spiritual successor to the legendary Porsche 917, the 919 carries a lot of weight on its shoulders. But it is also very well-equipped for the challenge ahead. The car features an advanced hybrid drivetrain consisting of a four-cylinder petrol engine boosted by two electric motors, like the 918 hyper car.
The Porsche will be taking on hybrid LMP1 cars from Toyota and Audi at the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours race, and other endurance races in the WEC calendar. The driver lineup they’ve put together for the 919 includes ex-F1 hot shot Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Neel Janni, Brendon Hartley and Marc Lieb.
Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 car also features a unique livery, which, combined with those headlight, gives the car the looks of a vicious, deadly, and giant insect.
