Nobody can blame your for thinking that the new McLaren 650S is just a beefed up 12C, because, well, it is. But, you’d surprised how different it seems at least to the cheaper, less powerful models. Here in this onboard driving footage we can see the car goes and sounds a lot meaner than the 12C. Looks like McLaren has finally found that magical ingredient the previous model lacked.

McLaren 650S is designed mainly as an updated version of the 12C. It will gradually phase out the old model, sitting in McLaren’s range as the mid-level guy between the P1 hyper car and an upcoming P15.

The 650 in the name of the car is a reference to the power output of its 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 engine. As mentioned, this engine sounds a lot nicer in this model than it in the 12C. McLaren 650S also features a revised front-end design featuring P1’s headlights bumper design. Updated cabin, suspension, and electronics are some of the other changes that set the 650 further apart from the 12C.
