Ford finally took the wraps off the promised 50th anniversary edition Mustang, and although it looks pretty much like the standard model on the outside, it is the best-equipped Mustang ever fitted with nearly every available option. They will make 1,964 units of it as an homage to the year the Mustang was born.
The limited edition 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year is based on the GT fastback version which means it is powered by the big 5.0-liter V8 engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. It comes with a manual gearbox, but you can opt for a six-speed automatic which comes with a Performance Pack that adds a limited-slip rear differential with a 3.55:1 final-drive. So the latter makes more sense.
The GT Performance Pack also includes massive six-piston Brembo front brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels with high-performance Y-speed-rated Pirelli P-Zero summer tires.
There are only two colors available for the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year: Wimbledon White (the same color the fist-ever Mustang was painted in) and Kona Blue. It also gets louvered rear quarter-windows, special badging, and more chrome detailing than the standard version.
Inside the cabin the 50 Year ‘Stang features a leather-wrapped steering wheel with cashmere stitching which is also found on the instrument panel, shifter boot, center armrest, door inserts and seats. Another highlight of the interior is the loop-carpet floor mats with cashmere stitching and suede binding.
Pricing for the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year will be announced closer to its launch in fall.
