A few weeks ahead of the car’s American debut at the New York Auto Show, McLaren released pricing details of the new 650 Coupe and Spider. And if we cut right to the chase, McLaren 650S starts from $265,500, and the Spider from $280,225. That’s a lot of money, but then it is a lot of car.
Compared to the cheaper, slower, and less dramatic 12C, McLaren 650S gets 30 more horsepower, for a total of 650 hp, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, and can reach 100 mph in just 5.7 seconds. The most important performance figure for the Americans – the quarter-mile time – stands at 10.5 seconds. The top speed of 650S is 207 mph (Coupe).
So does the slightly better performance is worth the extra dough you have to pay over the 12C? If you are obsessed with numbers, yes. If you are not, then maybe the P1-inspired front-end, or the new interior materials, or the fact that the 650 sounds a lot cooler than the 12C, would convince you.
McLaren 650S comes with standard carbon ceramic brakes, Pirelli P Zero Corsa, Alcantara cabin, IRIS satellite navigation with Bluetooth connectivity, and SIRIUS satellite radio. Notable options include fixed-back carbon racing seats, based on the lightweight design found in the McLaren P1, an electric steering column adjustment assists ingress and egress, a rear parking camera and extended carbon fiber throughout the interior.
Priced for the McLaren 650S in Canada start from $287,000 for the Coupe and $305,500 for the Spider.
