Decades after going out of production, the iconic Jaguar E-Type is about to be reborn as the company announced the re-creation of the six missing E-type Lightweight models they never built back in 1963. These six cars will complete the 18-car Special GT E-type series.
Each re-produced E-type Lightweight will be exactly as it would have been in 1963, with the same exact specifications, including the 3.8-litre straight-six engine. Jaguar’s craftsmen are building six all-aluminum body and engine blocks, and they are thanking their lucky stars the E-type Lightweight didn’t have interior trim and exterior chrome work.
Jaguar E-Type Lightweight was in fact 110 kg lighter than the standard version thanks mainly to the aluminum construction, and the lack of luxury trim and extra garnish. It was designed as a sort of track day car; a SuperLeggera versoins, if you will.
The first new Lightweight E-type will make its public debut later this summer, and while building such a thing is a tough challenge for Jaguar they are sure it is worth the effort. The standard 60’s E-Types are among the most sought after classic cars these days. You can imagine how high the demand will be for a brand-new lightweight model.
