As we get closer to the launch of the new baby Mac, the P13, more details start to trickle down and we get a clearer picture of the car’s character. It was believed that McLaren P13 is designed to be a Porsche 911 rival, and it sort of is, but not the base model. The specs of P13 suggest it is gunning for the 911 Turbo.
It is going to be cheaper than the 911 Turbo, though. According to McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, the P13 will cost two-thirds of the 650S, and that puts it just below the German car. Despite that it will be better car than the Porsche. That is what Flewitt claims, saying the P13 will be “the best driver’s car in its segment.”
That is a huge leap, but here’s a mid-engined, two-seater sports car with a carbon fiber tub and an aluminum body, and a twin-turbo V8 engine which is basically the same they use in the P1 hyper car. That is the recipe for something truly awesome.
Mr. Flewitt also gives a heads up about the looks of McLaren P13. He says there is only so much they can do with a mid-engined, two-seater layout. So he says expect the P13 to look remarkably like its brothers. He also admits that they are struggling what to call this car. ‘Ron’ and ‘Woking’ are apparently out of the question.
