A few days ago we showed a couple of renderings by Theophilus Chin depicting a coupe/activity version of Porsche Cayenne. Based on your reactions and ratings, you guys hated it. That’s a shame, because news emerged today that Porsche is seriously considering making something very similar to it.
The production Porsche Cayenne Coupe is planned as a sporting derivative of the third-gen Cayenne, set for debut in 2018. It will be based on the new MLB platform by Volkswagen and Audi which will underpin seven new SUVs. The decision to make the car was apparently made after Mercedes introduced their BMW X6 rival in form of the Concept SUV Coupe, which will soon head into production as the new MLC.
The Cayenne Coupe will arrive as a five-door liftback, featuring a sloping roofline and lower height than the standard model. As it is based on the next Cayenne, you can also expect new front and rear-end designs inspired by the 918 Spyder. But don’t expect a revolution here. It’s a Porsche, after all. They don’t do radical changes.
Apart from the looks, Porsche Cayenne Coupe will share of the rest of its parts including the engine lineup with the standard Cayenne. That means you get a range of petrol and diesel engines, including turbo and maybe hybrid powertrains. It will be priced considerably more, though. Exclusivity has its price.
