2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed is the venue Ford chose to unveil their new diesel-power Fiesta ST hot hatch. Notwithstanding the fact the fact that it is called STD, Ford Focus ST Diesel is a brilliant achievement, offering a good compromise between performance and economy.
The STD is powered by a 185PS and 400Nm of torque 2.0?litre TDCi diesel engine that achieves 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph, and returns 64.2 mpg and 114 g/km CO2. That combined with new chassis control technologies, tuned suspension and steering, and bespoke tires promise a superb driving experience.
The new Ford Focus ST benefits from variable ratio steering that results in quicker response and a new Electronic Transitional Stability function that improves high-speed cornering stability. There is also an improved Electronic Torque Vectoring Control maximizing traction through corners and increasing agility. Meanwhile the 19-inch wheels come with grippy new rubber developed by Michelin.
Styling-wise, the new Focus ST is sportier and more aggressive styling than before thanks to a lower, wider stance; new dynamically sculpted bonnet; slimmer headlamps and rectangular foglamps; and body?coloured side skirts and diffuser. A new addition to this model is SYNC 2 connectivity system with high-resolution 8-inch colour touch screen and class-leading voice control.
Ford also offers the Focus ST with the familiar 250PS 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, now with Auto-Start-Stop technology.
