Porsche wowed the WTA pre-Wimbledon party last night by sending a Porsche 918 Spyder to be Maria Sharapova’s personal ride for the evening. It was actually better than that for Porsche’s gorgeous ambassador, as she got a very special chauffer as well.

Maria’s chauffer was ex-Formula One star and current Porsche Le Mans driver, Mark Webber. They both looked great; especially Maria who kinda towered over Mark thanks her magnificent heels. Sharapova, a Porsche Ambassador, was collected from The Goring Hotel in Belgravia and driven by Webber to the prestigious event at Kensington Roof Gardens in West London.

But the undisputed star of the evening was the Porsche 918 they arrived in. The hybrid hyper car boasts mind-boggling performance with a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 214 mph. But the feature of the car was most useful for driving through London is its capability to drive solely on electricity. Even with the petrol engine engaged the 918 can still manage 94.1 mpg and 72 g/km, hich is astonishing for a car of this class.

Maria Sharapova commented: “What a fantastic way to arrive at the party. To be in the fastest Porsche with a racing driver like Mark is amazing. And it’s great also to be driving in a city like London running only on electric power – it’s an unbelievable car!”

Webber was equally impressed by the car. The Porsche World Endurance Championship driver said: “Having just driven the Porsche 919 Hybrid race car at Le Mans last weekend, I already know that this technology can produce incredible results. The 918 Spyder is the closest thing to a road-going version, and it’s just as amazing – especially as it can be driven into London for free. And of course it’s great fun to drive Maria around in it!”
