These days exotic car rallies take up all the space in the media, leaving literally no room for classic rallies like Ennstal-Classic in Austria. That’s a shame, because often such events are a lot cooler than any Gumball or Modball or what have you. They are less snobby anyway.
The 12 hour 2014 Ennstal-Classic took place at the beautiful Austrian Alps with a whopping 197 car participating. The event starts with the 400 km long Geolyth-Prologue on Thursday, followed by the Marathon (appr. 500 km) on Friday and on Saturday the finale in Gröbming. Cars are divided to four epochs.
The organizers say the event is pure driving heaven. They are not exaggerating, even though they tend to romanticize things a bit: “It is also the enthusiastic spectators in the leg villages along the route that hand over their love for nostalgy to the participants. Adventure is constantly aboard: when the region becomes lonelier and the headlights are switched on. When the hundredth speed on the stop watch, the eyes of the co-driver stick to the roadbook, those of the driver to the oil-pressure gauge. When thunderstorms arise and try to displace the participants from paradise.”
These are a few of the finest classic Porsches spicing up the event with their legendary looks and outstanding – for their age – performance. We have a couple of Porsche 356 models, and a few 60’s Porsche 911s.
