Turns out Dodge were being modest when they told us the new Challenger Hellcat makes 600-plus horsepower. The official ratings are now in, and the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine in this car makes a colossal 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.
That kind of power turns the rear wheels into rubber dust every time you go near the throttle, which is why Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat comes with two keyfobs.
The Black one is the normal key for everyday use and it gives you 500 horsepower. The red key is designated the track key and it unleashes all 707 horsepower. That’s a pointless feature to be honest, because nobody who buys a car named Hellcat is going to refrain from using all its power all the time.
Besides the awesome new engine, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat also gets a revised exterior design like all 2015 Challengers – only with more spice – and a new interior inspired by the 1971 Challenger. The transmission is a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic.
