Mercedes-Benz is coming to this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance with a rich lineup of cars representing the company’s past, present and future. The past part of their lineup is the most interesting of them all, as it includes the first showcase of the one-off 540K Streamliner coupe.
The gorgeous 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K Streamliner was the future car of its time, boasting features like lightweight aluminum bodyshell, supercharged engine, and a body developed in a wind tunnel. The 540K Streamliner will participate in the Tour d’Elegance on Thursday, August 14 followed by an exhibition at the Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 17.
The spirit of Mercedes-Benz 540K Streamliner, or at least some of it, lives on in the car representing the present: the S65 AMG Coupe. Celebrating its world debut at Pebble Beach, the super luxury coupe features a 12-cylinder biturbo engine producing an astounding 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. That makes a brilliant long distance cruiser, like the Streamliner in its day.
The future portion of the program includes the display of a Concept Coupe SUV, which unless we are mistaken is what will soon get into production as the ML Coupe. The car features the classic Mercedes coupe design cues such as flowing side line, stretched greenhouse and bold radiator grille, but in a SUV form.
